Frequently Asked Questions

Do you offer free quotes?

Yes, Betts & Bishop offers free, no-obligation quotes.

How long should it take to receive my quote?

Betts & Bishop’s Estimators try and get all quotes out within 5 working days. Sometimes the works are complex and require more time to put together comprehensive pricing, in these instances your Estimator will communicate a more feasible timeframe.

Do I need a landscape design?

For smaller projects or small areas of your garden/landscape, we can put together basic plans based on your preferences. For a full garden makeover, we’d advise getting a landscape designer involved to plan your garden. We can recommend some fantastic local landscape designers to help bring your vision into reality.

I’m building my new home; how early should I plan my landscape works?

We’d recommend involving us at the early stages of planning your home build. We find that often, advice around landscaping budget given to people building a home is quite underestimated. Involving Betts & Bishop in the early planning stage will help you build a realistic landscaping budget and also ensure that works are completed at the earliest possible point in construction so that you can move into your home seamlessly.

How soon can work begin?

The best landscapers get booked up quickly and you may find yourself on a waiting list. The timeframe to start can also depend on the ‘right’ time to complete that kind of project based upon several factors such as weather, site access etc.

If you need your landscape project completed in time for a special event, please discuss this with your Estimator at the very first phone call or meeting and we’ll do our best to meet your timeframe and communicate clearly where we can’t.

Is it safe to use my garden while landscapers are working?

Safety is one of the most important questions about landscaping. While your garden is a Betts & Bishop construction site, you must adhere to our Health & Safety Hazard ID and we’d ask you to refrain where possible from entering the construction area. We’ll do our very best to ensure safe and practical access to your property while works are in progress.

What is Softscaping vs. Hardscaping?

In landscaping we refer to different disciplines as Softscaping & Hardscaping. Hardscaping refers to landscaping including non-organic materials, concrete, milled timber, paving etc. Softscaping refers to organic materials, such as grass, plants, compost, mulch & soil.

What time of year is best to start my landscaping project?

Landscaping projects can generally be undertaken anytime throughout the year, however they are often slower to complete during wetter months. Some works, such as excavation & concrete are very weather dependent, and may be best suited to being completed in warmer months. We’ll communicate clearly if we anticipate that your works should only be completed at certain times of the year.

Does my work require a permit/consent from the local council?

Depending on the nature of work, consent may be required from the local council. This may also require engineered plans. In each instance, we will advise you on your options to undertake the works that you require.

Do we have to deal with/who deals with council permits?

Betts & Bishop can coordinate the submission and obtaining of council permits.
